About Jane Jacobs
Jane Jacobs (1916-2006) was an urbanist and activist whose writings championed a community-based approach to city building. She had no formal training as a planner, and yet her 1961 treatise, The Death and Life of Great American Cities, introduced ground-breaking ideas about how cities function, evolve, and fail that have become commonsense cannon for today’s architects, planners, policymakers, activists, and other city builders.
“Cities have the capability of providing something for everybody, only because, and only when, they are created by everybody.” - Jane Jacobs, The Death and Life of Great American Cities
About Jane's Walk Halifax
Jane's Walk Halifax is an all-volunteer effort made possible through an organizing committee and supportive community partners and residents striving to engage and reimagine our city through observation, dialogue, education and storytelling. Our team is already excitedly planning for next year and welcome any additional support or interest in joining the organizing committee.
"We've seen a tremendous amount of growth and change in Halifax over the past two years and I think now more than ever having these opportunities to connect with neighbours is crucial to strengthen our communities and sense of place." - Emily Miller, Jane's Walk Halifax City Organizer
